Flame Treaters for Converting Line

The flame treatment system for Converting Industry is composed by a mixture generator, with integrated electric board and operator panel, for automation and control of equipment, then, the treatment station unit. The system, designed to work with all common industrial combustible gases, is equipped with automatic ignition and continuous detection of flame. It includes safety devices to detect any fault, as from European rules.

The system permits a wide integration, via network data, with the machinery of the production line, where it will be installed in, by giving possibilities to be managed from the main console. EsseCI Treatment Station is equipped with a unit of analysis and continuous control of working mixture composition

Surface Flame Treatment on Paper and Cardboard

Applied on paper and cardboard flame treatment system ” ESSECI ” provides the following results:

  • Elimination of hairs and small growths that may be present on the surface;
  • Elimination of humidity or water evaporation , which could cause air bubbles between the layers to be laminated;
  • Decontamination of oils or fats that may be present due to previous contact with plastic surfaces;
  • Creation of bonds on the surface to be coupled thanks to the free oxygen in the flame.

The material oxidizes the surface and is thus improved adhesion other materials.

Referring to the next sketch representing an extrusion coating line and following what has been reported above, it appears clear how flame treatment systems can be beneficially applied both prior and after the PE extrusion step.

1st burner station will be the pre-treatment station, having the duty to prepare paper/paperboard substrates to the following extrusion step. Thanks to design of treater roll, it is possible to warm up the substrate (so significantly improving PE melt adhesion), still keeping correct moisture content inside the paper itself. In this way paper will be not too dry, nor too humid at the extrusion step and the adhesion will be maximized.

Treater roll presence also allows to work with flame very close to the substrate surface (few millimiters), so focusing the combustion energy over it and diminishing energy losses to the surrounding room (esseCI treaters are reported to burn a fifth of gas compared to competitors systems). 2nd burner station, downstream the extrusion step, will have the duty to treat the polymer surface in order to get excellent adhesion for the following printing, coating and metallising phases, as before underlined.
